## Comfort without losing the desert

A luxury tent doesn't mean you see less of the Sahara. You still ride out at sunset with your guide, still eat by the fire and still wake to the dunes turning gold at dawn. The difference is everything that happens inside the tent: a proper double or twin bed with good linen, room to unpack, lighting and sockets, and your own bathroom with a hot shower and a flushing toilet.

That makes a real difference for many people. If you are on your honeymoon, celebrating a birthday, travelling with older parents or simply want to sleep well after a long road trip, the luxury tent lets you enjoy the evening without thinking about the walk to a shared shower or charging your camera.

## What's in a luxury tent

- A double or twin beds with quality sheets, duvets and extra blankets in winter
- A private bathroom with a hot shower, washbasin and flushing toilet
- Lighting and sockets inside the tent for phones and cameras
- Rugs, a small seating area and space for your luggage
- Your bags taken to the tent by 4x4, so you only carry your camera
- Dinner at your own table if you prefer it to the shared main tent

The tents are made in the traditional way, with heavy fabric walls on a sturdy frame, so they stay cool in the evening heat and warm on winter nights. Water arrives by truck, so even the hot showers are best kept short.

## Celebrations in the dunes

Many of our luxury guests are celebrating something. Tell us when you book and we can prepare a private dinner on a dune under the stars, a cake for a birthday, candles and a quiet corner away from the music, or a sunset glass of tea on the highest dune near camp. If you are planning a proposal, we'll help you choose the moment and the place, and keep the secret.

We can't promise perfect weather, but the desert sky is clear most nights of the year. If stars matter most to you, check the moon: on nights around the new moon the Milky Way is easy to see with your own eyes.

## Getting to camp: camel or 4x4

The classic way is by camel: about an hour through the dunes, stopping on a ridge to watch the sunset. If you'd rather not ride, or have little ones or someone with limited mobility in your group, we drive you to camp by 4x4 and you can still walk up a dune for the sunset.

In the morning you can do the same: ride back to Merzouga after breakfast, or be driven back, which is quicker if you have a long drive ahead. Many guests mix the two, riding one way and driving the other.

## Food at the luxury camp

Dinner is a proper Moroccan meal. It usually starts with soup and a selection of cooked and fresh salads, followed by a tajine or a couscous, then dessert and fruit. Breakfast is generous: bread and msemmen pancakes, eggs, cheese, jam, honey, olive oil, juice, coffee and mint tea.

Vegetarian, vegan and allergy-friendly meals are no trouble at all if you tell us beforehand. Bottled water and tea are always available; if you'd like anything special for a celebration, ask us when you book and we'll see what we can do.

## A typical evening at the luxury camp

You arrive at camp as the light fades and find your tent ready, your bags already inside. There is time for a hot shower before dinner, then tea by the fire while the stars come out. Dinner is served in the main tent or, if you prefer, at a table of your own outside, lit by lanterns.

After dinner the camp team plays the drums by the fire. Stay as long as you like, or walk a few steps away from the light, lie on a blanket on the cool sand and let your eyes adjust to the dark. On a clear night it takes about twenty minutes before the Milky Way appears across the sky.

## When to book the luxury tents

Luxury tents are the first to fill up in the busy seasons: spring (especially around Easter), October and November, and the Christmas and New Year holidays. For those dates, we suggest booking a few weeks ahead. The rest of the year a few days' notice is often enough.

Winter is a wonderful time for the luxury camp. Days are sunny and pleasant, nights are cold and clear, and a warm bed with a duvet and a hot shower make the cold part of the fun rather than a challenge. In summer, the evenings at camp are warm and long, and we serve dinner outside under the stars.

## Who chooses the luxury camp

Honeymooners and couples celebrating an anniversary are the most frequent luxury guests, but they are far from the only ones. Families like the extra space and the private bathroom, especially with young children. Older travelers appreciate a real bed, a flushing toilet a few steps away and the option to reach camp by 4x4. Photographers like the sockets for batteries and the quiet corner away from the main tent for night shots.

And many guests simply choose it at the end of a long road trip across Morocco, when a hot shower and a good night's sleep before the drive back to Marrakech or Fes feel like the best luxury of all.

## How to reach Merzouga for your night

Most guests arrive by car from the Dades valley, Fes or Marrakech, or at the end of one of our multi-day tours, in which case we take care of everything. If you're driving yourself, park at our guesthouse in Merzouga and we'll take your luggage to the tent by 4x4. If you come by the overnight bus, we meet you at the stop and give you a room to rest until the afternoon.

The nearest airport is Errachidia, about two hours away, with flights from Casablanca. We can pick you up there and bring you straight to the dunes.

## Best time to go

Any month works in Merzouga. Spring (March to May) and autumn (October and November) are the most comfortable. In summer we start camel rides late in the afternoon and quad rides early in the morning, and in winter the evenings are cold, so bring a warm layer. Use the month guide and live weather on our home page to see what to expect.

## Questions about this tour

**Is there hot water?**

Yes, every luxury tent has a hot shower.

**Can we charge phones and cameras?**

Yes, there are sockets in the tent.

**Is the food different from the standard camp?**

Yes, dinner is a longer, plated meal served at your own table.

**How is the luxury tent different from a luxury hotel?**

It's still a tent in the dunes: a comfortable bed, your own bathroom and power, but desert sounds, sand and starry skies outside. That's the point. Expect comfort, not a five-star hotel.

**Can we combine a luxury tent with a multi-day tour?**

Yes. Every tour that includes a night at our camp can be booked with a luxury tent. Choose it in the booking form.

**Is the luxury camp quieter than the standard camp?**

It's the same camp. Your tent may be a little further from the main tent, and you can always ask for dinner at your own table and a quiet evening.

**Do you have tents for families?**

Yes. We can add beds for children in a luxury tent or give a family two tents side by side. Tell us the ages when you book.

**Can we stay two nights in a luxury tent?**

Yes. Our Two Nights in the Sahara can be booked with a luxury tent, with a day in the dunes between the two nights.

**Is the luxury tent heated in winter?**

The tents are well insulated and the beds have duvets and extra blankets. Desert nights in December and January can be close to freezing, so bring warm sleepwear and we'll make sure you're comfortable.
